Sympathy for the Snow

We’ve had some cold weather lately in LA – it even got down to 40° F in some areas this week and believe it or not, our (distant) mountains are covered in a dusting of snow. That’s a big deal in this neck of the woods! It’s been a crazy winter storm season and to our friends who get real snow, we don’t know how you do it! In sympathy for the snow, we’re posting some of our favorite shots from our man-made Malibu snow storm last month for New Zealand based shoe and bag company Merchant 1948 with creative director Thomas Cannings. Worn: A Look At Giuliano Bekor’s Latest Series


Worn
is the title of Giuliano Bekor’s latest fine art collection. While thematically this series translates to a very broad spectrum of experience, it was born of personal narrative whose poignancy resonates in the emotional charge of its subjects. Exhaustion is a symptom of modern culture. We work tirelessly. We are taught to never give up. We are fraught with standards of achievement imposed by mores, social structures, economic pressures and inherited value systems. The year 2012 may not signify the end of the world, but rather a state of degeneration needed to begin anew.

Down Under

We just wrapped an ad campaign with footwear brand Overland to hit down under this September. The set was pretty minimal: an antique police car, a scorpion trainer, a remote hotel in the desert, sexy vintage convertible, a handful of wild snakes, a cast of gorgeous models, a plane from 1926, some Nancy Sinatra tunes, and an arsenal of amazing shoes. Nothing too fancy.

Diamonds! Diamonds!


I believe it was Marilyn Monroe who sang the popular phrase, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” Ladies and gentlemen: IT’S TRUE.

Yesterday we shot an ad campaign for Lugano Diamonds, a Newport Beach-based jewelry brand specializing in the finest quality stones. The concept was simple: elegant, sophisticated, a bit of glam. We loved watching as model Dana Stuce reclined on luxe Habité furniture to a Julie London soundtrack. We double-loved our makeup, hair and styling squad for getting that gamine eye, cascading hair-curl and shoulder-baring gown juuuust right.

Best of all? Lugano sources exclusively cruelty-free diamonds and is a member of The Kimberly Process, a United Nations effort to protect ethical stone sources. So while my heart fluttered when I tried on a 10 carat flawless pear-cut ring on set, my conscience was content.

And my inner Marilyn sang:

Diamonds! Diamonds!
I don’t mean rhinestones!
But diamonds are a girl’s best friend.
