Going Beyond…A Beauty Spotlight

As Giuliano’s Editorial Director, I get to spend my days surrounded by amazingly talented individuals, and witness some pretty magical creative collaborations. As a self-proclaimed beauty product junkie, I’m in heaven, spending time with top glam crews, and admiring their coveted kits. These talented people are directly responsible for creating some of the most iconic, drool-worthy looks, and keeping celebrities and models looking fabulous. They know all the tips and tricks and their kits are filled with the best tried and true goodies. These awesome humans have shown me how to fix terrible under-eye circles (when you love your work…you tend to work a lot – we don’t sleep much around here) and perked my hair up on the worst of hair days. I’ve been toying with doing a weekly spotlight on our blog introducing some of our favorite hair and makeup artists, and sharing their favorite products, tips, and tricks with you, and with the new year upon us, what better time than the present?

The holidays are over, we are now in the thick of winter, dreaming about sunny, warm days (ok, we get those often in Los Angeles but we ARE having a colder than usual winter) and hunting for ways to fix our tired, drab winter hair and skin while sticking to our New Year’s resolutions of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Meet Mara Schiavetti – Green Hair Stylist with Cloutier Remix and owner of the website A Green Beauty. We had the opportunity to work with Mara recently on our “winter wonderland” inspired shoot with celebrity Evanna Lynch (best known for her work in Harry Potter) and I was so inspired by her approach to green beauty that I felt she was perfect for the first Beauty Spotlight of the new year.

Below is Mara’s response to her favorite must-have products during the winter (and check out some of the shots from our shoot too!).

All the best,

Diamonds! Diamonds!

I believe it was Marilyn Monroe who sang the popular phrase, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” Ladies and gentlemen: IT’S TRUE.

Yesterday we shot an ad campaign for Lugano Diamonds, a Newport Beach-based jewelry brand specializing in the finest quality stones. The concept was simple: elegant, sophisticated, a bit of glam. We loved watching as model Dana Stuce reclined on luxe Habité furniture to a Julie London soundtrack. We double-loved our makeup, hair and styling squad for getting that gamine eye, cascading hair-curl and shoulder-baring gown juuuust right.

Best of all? Lugano sources exclusively cruelty-free diamonds and is a member of The Kimberly Process, a United Nations effort to protect ethical stone sources. So while my heart fluttered when I tried on a 10 carat flawless pear-cut ring on set, my conscience was content.

And my inner Marilyn sang:

Diamonds! Diamonds!
I don’t mean rhinestones!
But diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

Here’s a look behind the scenes…

Mad Men’s Trudy Campbell

Last night was the finale of Mad Men’s fifth season and we are going to miss Manhattan’s dapper ad-men. To bid adieu to our favorite drama, we remember the lovely Alison Brie, shot by Giuliano Bekor for ELLE Canada‘s April issue. The actress, also known as Mrs. Trudy Campbell, embodied the retro glamour that the show is known for starting with the cover shot: she wears a mint green dress by Vera Wang on the roof at the Standard Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

The old Hollywood look was flawlessly achieved thanks to stylist Anita Patrickson and make-up artist, Sage Maitri, of The Wall Group. Alison’s beautiful hair styling was done by Robert Ramos and Gilbert Muniz of Cloutier Remix. We can’t forget those bright, spring nails by Debbie Leavitt of Cloutier Remix.

Alison’s beauty reminds us that Don Draper isn’t the only one we are going to be missing. We can’t wait for season six!
